After nine invitational meets, the Pasadena City College women's track and field team is primed to put up high team points at the upcoming South Coast Conference Prelims (Tuesday, April 21) and Championships (Saturday, April 25) at El Camino College.
On Friday at the Cerritos Invitational, a number of season bests took place highlighted by Ireja Lauderdale moving up to sixth in the state in placing second in the 100 meters at 12.01 seconds. Lauderdale, who also raced her best time in the 200 (seventh, 25.49, 19th in state), was the anchor on PCC's first-place 4x100 relay with Kezia Gavlak, Destiny Rayburn and Jariah Martin. Their 47.94 mark is fifth in the state.
Gavlak's 18 feet, 2.5 inch leap in the long jup placed her third and now ninth in the state. Her teammate Quiana Laughlin is sixth in the state and tops among SCC competitors in event with an early-season 18-5.25). Gavlak was third in the triple jump (33-10.25) but her best of 38-1.5 is state #6.
Raiah Blackmon threw her season best in placing fifth in the discus as her 123-5 is 12th in California.
Camila Gonzalez raced her best time in the 5,000 at 19:30.78, third at the Cerritos meet.
The Lancers are directed by head coach Innocent Egbunike.
