Women's Soccer Road Warriors, 6-2 Away From PCC

The Lancers improved to 6-2 in road games this year with a 1-0 win at LA Harbor College on Tuesday. It was a South Coast Conference crossover game, which does not affect divisional standings.

Whether or not they are just more comfortable on the bigger road fields, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team has enjoyed their games in their visiting white jerseys. The Lancers improved to 6-2 in road games this year with a 1-0 win at LA Harbor College on Tuesday. It was a South Coast Conference crossover game, which does not affect divisional standings.

PCC is back on the winning track, 2-0-1 in its last three games, to move to 8-4-3 on the season. LA Harbor (1-13-1) has won only once in its 15 games.

The teams were scoreless until 18 minutes left in the contest when Yulissa Macias made a throw-in from the 30-yard line. Thamara Peterson received the throw and dribbled deep into the goalie box only to turn and give a perfect pass to Alexxis Molinar, who drove in a 1-timer from the 6-yard line for the game-winning goal. 

Goalie Lilly Urumieh made six saves for her fourth shutout and second straight blanking. The freshman has a sparkling 0.80 goals against average this season in 10 starts.

On October 20, PCC defeated host Compton, 4-0, as Brianna Aguilar scored in the ninth minute. The next three goals were scored in a 15-minute span during the second half by Angelica De La Cruz, Kaitlin Ruiz, and Stephanie Esparza. Chloe Twitchell and Emily Matthiesen picked up assists. 

Twelve different Lancers have scored a goal this season.

Pasadena's strong play can be credited much to a strong defender crew that includes Molinar, Twitchell and a midfielder unit with controlled territorial movement by Matthiesen, Peterson, and Aguilar. Coach Reggie Rivas will often move Molinar and Twitchell into the offensive zone on corner kicks, free kicks and throw-ins. Twitchell still leads the team with six goals while Matthiesen has a team-best eight assists.

The Lancers will be hosting a very formidable Cerritos College team on Friday, Oct. 27. The Falcons are 12-1-1 and No. 6 in the state in the power point rankings. Game time is 4 p.m. at Robinson Stadium, following the men's game.
