Women's Water Polo Season Closes With 8th Place SCC Finish

The Pasadena City College women's water polo team scored a season-high in goals but lost the seventh place final Saturday v. Rio Hondo, 20-8, at the South Coast Conference Championship Tournament held at Cerritos College.

Alondra Vazquez scored four goals while goalie Rae Jiao collected 13 saves including three from short range, passed out three assists, and made three of the team's 11 steals. The Lancers were as close as down 7-5 in the second quarter before the Roadrunners pulled away as Emily Narvaez and Klariza Munoz each scored six goals for RHC.

Selah Gonzalez netted two goals, Alina Soto a goal and two helpers, and Yahaira Martinez tallied one score. Genesis Rojas defended three steals and Hannah Solis had two takeaways.

Vazquez and Soto scored in PCC's 21-2 loss to eventual SCC champion Long Beach City on Friday, then the sophomore Vazquez, who scored six goals at the tourney, prevented PCC from being blanked by Chaffey in an 18-1 defeat. 

For the season, the 2-year starting netminder Jiao totaled 121 saves in 14 games for an average of 8.6 per contest. Martinez led the '25 Lancers in goals with 16, Soto scored 12 goals and posted a team-leading eight assists, and Rojas made 21 steals.
