The Pasadena City College women's water polo team celebrated its three sophomores prior to its South Coast Conference game against Chaffey at the Lancers' off-campus pool located at Polytechnic High. Wnile the Panthers defeated the Lancers, 21-6, it was freshman Alina Soto who impressed late in the match.
A lefty shooter, Soto, who joined the team at the start of October after playing as a goalie at Granite Hills High in Northern California Porterville, scored a hat trick (all in the final four minutes) and added three assists in contributing on all six PCC goals.
Sophomore goalie Rae Jiao continued her impressive season as she made 12 saves and two steals while she was honored with letterman teammates Alondra Vazquez and Hannah Solis by head coach Terry Stoddard and the rest of the squad in a pre-game ceremony.
Freshman Yahaira Martinez added two goals and two assists as she upped her team-leading goals total to 11. Frosh Genesis Rojas picked up two steals and assisted on freshman Selah Gonzalez's goal.
Chaffey was led by Elise Camarena with five goals and five helpers.
The Lancers next play at Rio Hondo College on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in a 3 p.m. SCC game.
