News mentions
The Pasadena City College women's water polo team used its fourth place finish this year at the conference tournament to earn four selections on the 32-player, All-South Coast Conference First and Second Teams.
In its 21 seasons, the Pasadena City College women's water polo program has had its share of ups and downs. Last year, a slew of injuries prevented the Lancers from finishing the 2018 season after nine matches. Fast forward to 2019 and head coach Terry Stoddard, the only coach to direct the sport since it started here in 1999, has seen his team not only remain healthy but accomplish a program first.
Chloe O'Connor rifled in her fifth goal of the game with 17 seconds left in overtime to give the Pasadena City College women's water polo team a thrilling, 11-10 victory over Rio Hondo at PCC's Aquatic Center on Wednesday afternoon.
While the Pasadena City College women's water polo team did what it could to keep up with state #4-ranked Long Beach City College, Lancers goalie Jackie Collier went about her business. Collier made 12 saves, many on point-blank opportunities, over the first three quarters and at least showed the visitors there would be no easy scores for the high-scoring Vikings on Wednesday.
An All-South Coast Conference Second Team selection last year, Fernanda Alvarez has established herself as the go-to scorer for the 2019 Pasadena City College women's water polo team. The center forward scored seven goals in the team's season-opening win, 14-10 win over Santa Monica and netted 12 overall at the LA Valley Mini Tournament played Saturday.
