The Pasadena City College women's water polo team followed a 2-2 run at the College of San Mateo Tournament Sept. 29-30 with a South Coast Conference game Monday against visiting Rio Hondo. Water Polo In Baby Steps During Early SCC Play

One look at Wednesday's 15-4 loss to first-place Long Beach City College would lead you to believe that the Pasadena City College women's water polo team is way behind the competition. But while the Lancers are 1-5 and 0-4 in South Coast Conference play, a different outlook is that the team has already showed signs of improvement that could lead to some success in the next few weeks.

Marin Can't Miss In Women's Water Polo

Freshman Yesenia Marin scored five goals on all five of her shot attempts in the Pasadena City College women's water polo team's 16-1 victory over Santa Ana Sept. 9. That meant Marin had remarkably scored on her first eight collegiate shots this season. While she finally was stopped in the opening quarter of the team's third game against San Diego Miramar, Marin still cashed in two more goals in an 11-8 loss to the Jets to cap the the LA Valley Tournament.

All-SCC player and leading goal scorer Zuri Pulido returns to lead the PCC women's water polo team in 2017.
Women's Water Polo Changing Course

For the last few years, the Pasadena City College women's water polo team has been defined by its defense. The Lancers played many low-scoring games and had some of the program's lowest goals against averages in both 2016 and 2015. But in 2017, the Lancers' roster has shaped up to become one with better overall shooters as offense is going to be more of a premium.
