Pasadena City College women's track and field sprinter Ireja Lauderdale jetted in 12.34 seconds to win the 100 meters event at the Cerritos Open on Saturday. Her mark is now second in the state and fastest in the SoCal Region.
Lauderdale edged out Cerritos runners Taaliyah Stephenson by just .05 and Naleyah Davis by .06 of a second (both raced in a separate heat) to take first place.
Mia Belmonte scored third in the 800 meters in 2:19.88, which happens to be her season-best mark and third currently in the state rankings. The top three finishers at Cerritos happen to now own the top three times.
Raiah Blackmon tossed a 100 feet, 6 inches in the discus and that places her 22nd in the state.
Destiny Rayburn placed sixth overall in both the 100 (12.61) and 200 (26.02).
Kezia Gavlak did not participate in this meet, but she owns the third-best state marks in both the long jump (17-11.5) and triple jump (38-1.5). The 4x100 relay squad holds the state fourth fastest time (48.90) performed at the Battle of the Regions meet on Feb. 13.
Next up for Coach Innocent Egbunike's Lancers is the Orange Coast College Coast Challenge on Friday, Mar. 13.
