EL CAMINO 5-WAY CHALLENGE RESULTS
In one of the most successful regular season team performances in the last 10 seasons, the Pasadena City College women's track and field team enjoyed five event victories at the El Camino 5-Way Challenge held Feb. 21.
The Lancers went a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 meters as Kezia Gavlak won in 12.79, just ahead of teammate Ireja Lauderdale (12.81) and Jariah Martin (13.09). Gavlak is now seventh and Lauderdale eighth in the current state rankings.
Gavlak leaped a state third-best 17 feet, 11.5 inches to win the long jump as Lancer Destiny Rayburn scored second at 17-1.91.
Mia Belmonte, who had a season-best third in state 2:22.54 at the Battle of the Regions meet on Feb. 13, won the 800 in a mark of 2:24.68.
PCC posted first place in both the 4x100 relay (Gavlak, Rayburn, Martin, Lauderdale) in 49.05 and 4x400 relay (Belmonte, Lauderdale, Rayburn, Gavlak) in 4:31.31.
Other top finishes included Belmonte's second in the 400 (1:02.06), Gavlak's second in the triple jump (37-9.5), and Lauderdale's third in the 200 (26.53).
Gavlak continues to be second in the community colleges in the TJ (38-1.5).
Head Coach Innocent Egbunike's Lancers next compete at the Cerritos Open this Saturday, Feb. 27.
