For the second straight season, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team hosts an opening postseason match as the #13 seed Lancers play #20 Palomar in Round 1 of the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Wednesday. The game has a 4 p.m. start time at Robinson Stadium.
The Lancers (14-6-2) placed second in the South Coast Conference North Division and were third at the recent SCC Tournament.
Palomar (11-4-5) is making its first appearance in the playoffs in 21 years and come into the match as one of the top scoring teams in the state. Tied for 10th in the state in goals average per game at 3.1, the Comets boast three players with 10 or more goals each in Naomi Allen (11), Lizzy Cook and Sophia Frederick (10 each). Allen and Cook were All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference selections.
PCC is 3-0-1 in its history v. Palomar and beat the Comets, 4-1, in the very first playoff game by a Lancers team in Round 1 of the 1999 regionals. The colleges last met on the pitch in 2018 when PCC tied Palomar, 2-2, in a Sept. 11 game also at Robinson Stadium.
The winner of the Round 1 playoff will travel to face #4 Cypress on Saturday, Nov. 22.
LANCERS PLACE SIX ON ALL-SOUTH COAST CONFERENCE NORTH DIVISION TEAM
Head Coach Terryn Soelberg's squad saw six players, all freshmen, selected to the 2025 All-SCC North Division First and Second Teams.
Making the First Team were conference overall second-leading scorer and forward Alexandra Lopez (14 goals, six assists, 34 points) and two top defenders in Caley Orona and Alyssa Araya. Orona and Araya were part of why the Lancers are 23rd in the state in team defense at just 1.05 goals allowed per game.
The Second Team selections were forwards in South Coast assists leader Isabella Nersesyan (three goals, 10 helpers), Esmeralda Jaquez (six goals) and Iris Pollard (five goals).
