The host Pasadena City College soccer team used some sharp shooting to post a 4-1 victory Friday night over Cerritos and grab third place in the annual South Coast Conference Tournament. The Lancers finished the regular season at 14-6-2 and were #12 in the Power Points ratings for the SoCal Region that help determine the postseason seedings.

PCC will learn about selections for the All-SCC team this weekend and will get an official seed for the SoCal Playoffs Round 1 that takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The Lancers appear to be in line as a host team facing a lower seed for that date.

Against Cerritos (6-11-4), the Lancers jumped ahead 89 seconds into the contest when Isabella Nerseyan fed Esmeralda Jaquez, who curved a drive from the right side of the box for a goal into the upper corner. In the 10th minute, Maxine Scott ripped a shot from the center of the 15-yard line and it just got under the cross bar for a 2-0 lead. Adamari Polanco picked up an assist on that goal.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Iris Pollard stole the ball and fired in a shot from 22 yards out. In the 56th minute, Nersesyan received a long kick from goalie Gaioi Mahe and proceeded to blast in a 25-yard liner into the back of the net.

Nersesyan took the SCC lead for assists, now with 10. Alexandra Lopez, who did not play due to injury, was still second in SCC scoring with 14 goals and 34 points.

On Nov. 10, PCC lost in the tourney semifinals at Mt. San Antonio, 4-1. Scott fed Nadia Aguilar for an 18-yard upper net goal in the 67th minute. Scott on offensive opportunities and Kristina Snowden defensively stood out in the defeat.

Since the start of the 2023 season, head coach Terryn Soelberg has directed her Lancers to a 48-14-8 overall record and what will be the program's third straight year to qualify for the regional playoffs.
