Raylyn Laney scored two of her team's three goals in a 12-span during the first half as the state #10 Pasadena City College women's soccer team shut out host El Camino, 3-0, on Friday afternoon. While both teams are members of the South Coast Conference, this was played as a non-conference contest.
Laney, a sophomore forward, scored in the 23rd minute on an assist by Nadia Aguilar. Just five minutes later, Emily Martinez netted a goal on a pass by Alexandra Lopez. Then in the 35th minute, Laney struck again, assisted one more time by Aguilar.
The Lancers (7-4 overall) sent 28 shots toward the El Camino net with Aguilar leading the way on six attempts.
Goalie Gaioi Mahe made four saves over the first 70 minutes and combined on the shutout with Marycarmen Olvera-Gomez (two saves, final 20 minutes).
PCC rebounded after losing to unranked College of the Desert, 1-0, on Tuesday in a game at Robinson Stadium. COD goalie Ana Rojas stymied the Lancers by making nine saves, including a few from close range.
Next Friday, Oct. 10, Pasadena hosts East Los Angeles in its SCC North Division opener. Game time at Robinson Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
