After an inconsistent first half that saw the Pasadena City College women's soccer team fall behind 1-0, the Lancers mounted a bevy of high-end scoring chances over the final 45 minutes in defeating Taft, 2-1, at Robinson Stadium on Tuesday.
PCC (4-1) hit two cross bars and were stoned on several point-blank shots in the box by Taft goalie Kiana Gordon. In the 65th minute, Maxine Scott played a 2-on-1 and fed it to Isabella Nersesyan who drove in a bullet that tied the match.
Just five minutes later, Alyssa Araya knocked a bouncing shot from the 20-yard line that went over the head of Gordon into the net for the game-winning goal.
Nersesyan, Emily Martinez, Esmeralda Jaquez, and Nadia Aguilar combined for a number of golden chances but Gordon, who had a few diving stops, stuffs on breakaways and a few tip-outs over the bar totaled 12 saves.
Pasadena outshot Taft (1-2), 21-8, and by a 13-4 margin in the second half.
Goalie Gaioi Mahe only had to make three saves while Rachel Mentaze was solid in defending and controlling the play on the defensive end.
Pasadena next plays at Orange Coast College on Friday, Sept. 12 in a 5 p.m. game.
