Badminton Takes Two Up North, Won 3 Straight

The Pasadena City College women's badminton team scored two close victories against Northern California colleges the past few days to extend its win streak to three and improve to 3-1 overall. 

At Fresno City on Friday, the Lancers edged the Rams, 12-9. Yoon Noe and Tiffany Nguyen collected four key points with two #1 doubles wins, including a 16-21, 21-14, 21-17 triumph over FCC's #2 Alisa Pasricha and Ashley Garcia. The #3 pair of Linh Tran and Sau-Lan Yang won 21-6, 21-10.

In singles, #3 Kharista Kristi, #5 Thuw Tran, and #6 Linh Tran each won two matches. Krisi won a marathon over FCC's #3 Garcia, 21-17, 20-22, 21-18. 

The Lancers beat defending 3C2A state champion De Anza, 11-10, on Thursday in Cupertino. While De Anza played without two of its top players, the Lancers took advantage by picking up four key singles points at #5 and #6 singles. Both  Thuw Tran and  Linh Tran won two matches while Kristi earned a win v. the Mountain Lions' Enya Liu, 21-10, 21-11. 

In doubles, the #2 duo of Nguyen and Thuw Tran won two matches (four team points) and Noe and Kristi at #1 doubles split their matches, rallying to win v. Liu and Marissa Valerio, 14-21, 21-13, 23-21. 

Coach Jen Ho's Lancers next hosts De Anza on Wednesday, April 1 in a 12 noon, non-conference match at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
