Pasadena City College was selected as a 3C2A Scholar Team in the sport of women's badminton for the 2023-2024 calendar year.
The 2024 Lancers, the South Coast Conference champions and state runner-up, were one of 23 teams across the state in different sports to be awarded.
Coach Jen Ho's team consisted of 11 student-athletes, seven of whom earned 4.0 grade point averages. The team had a 3.87 cumulative GPA.
Top sophomore singles player Rhea Zou had earned PCC's 2023-24 Top Scholar Athlete for women's sports as part of the Elizabeth Jensen scholarships.
Other 4.0 student-athletes were sophomores Sophie Chao and Leslie Lien as well as freshmen Janet Diec, Vicky Ruan, Anh Vu Nguyen Tran, and Uyen Banh.
The rest of the Lancers high GPA squad included sophomore My Linh Ly, and freshmen Laura Lin, Karylle Peralta, and Anya Bondarenko.
PCC Lead Athletic Counselor Matthew Williams, athletic counselor Cassandra Lanier, and eligibility specialist Sara Medina were all instrumental in the nomination for the team's award.
