Pasadena City College finished in 11th place out of 21 scoring men's cross country teams at the Golden West Classic held Sept. 19 at the Central Park course in Huntington Beach. The Lancers were fifth among South Coast Conference teams participating.
Pasadena improved by 10 places overall than last year when it took 21st out of 25 teams.
Running without top racer Drake Anderson who missed due to an injury, PCC relied on sophomore Maxime Slek, who placed 37th overall out of a group of 211 runners in the field. Slek crossed the 4-mile run finish in 22 minutes, 21.82 seconds.
Sophomore Teddie Wen scored in 67th place (23:11.74), followed by Benicio Haro in 93rd (24:11), Edgar Valenzuela in 104th (24:28), and Dylan La Marsna in 113th (24:47.82).
Other Lancers harriers in the race were Jake Rogel, who placed 131st (25:36.54), Edgar Flores in 140th (25:54.53), John Sanchez-Lopez in 146th (26:26), Aidan Montes in 180th (29:22), and Claudio Reynoso in 196th (34:10).
Finishing ahead of PCC from the South Coast were Cerritos in third place, LA Harbor in seventh, El Camino in ninth, and East Los Angeles in 10th place. Cuyamaca won the Golden West Classic with 44 team points, led by individual race winner Ivan Guzman in 20:43.11.
Coach Innocent Egbunike's Lancers return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 at the Manny Bautista Invitational, hosted by San Diego Mesa at NTC Park.
