Anthony Pequeno came oh so close to the 200 meters title, but had to settle for second place to highlight the Pasadena City College men's track and field team performance at the Southern California Championships held Saturday at Saddleback College.

Pequeno and Riverside City's Marcellus Linton hit the line at the same official 21.30 seconds time, but the timing system showed a slight .03 margin as Linton won the race at 21.293 to Pequeno's 21.296.

The Lancers finished tied for 13th place out of 23 scoring colleges with 13 team points. Pequeno earned eight points in his race.

The 4x100 relay squad of Jayden Jordan, Travon Avery, Pequeno and Jamir Allen raced their season best of 41.42 to place fourth and score five team points.

The 4x400 relay of Devin Hardy, Avery, Allen and Pequeno were left out of the scoring in ninth place with a 3:26.65. The squad had put up an impressive 3:18.72 at the SoCal Prelims on Tuesday.

PCC recorded its highest finish at the SoCal Finals since 2015 when that team placed 10th.

The Lancers, directed by head coach Innocent Egbunike, will now move on to the 3C2A State Championships May 17 at College of San Mateo.
