Both of Pasadena City College's relay teams posted qualifying times for this week's Southern California Regional Track and Field Championships this Saturday, May 10 at Saddleback College. Led by Anthony Pequeno, who qualified in the 200 meters, PCC competed this past Saturday in the SoCal Prelims also at Saddleback.

The 4x400 relay squad of Devin Hardy, Travon Avery, Jamir Allen, and Pequeno won the third heat and posted the second best time overall in the event at 3:18.72 as it ran faster than perennial power Riverside by .02 (heat 2 winner). Heat #1 winner Mt. San Antonio's 3:18.07 has the top seed.

PCC holds the SoCal meet record in the event back in 1982, a school record 3:06.16.

Pequeno raced to a #6 seed for the 200 meters final with a 21.44 seconds mark. His 21.27 time in the South Coast Conference Championships is the 10th best time in PCC history, a rare achievement to crack the top 10 iafter the glory of days of state title squads (1978, 1984) and other high finishers that were then coached by recently inducted 3C2A Hall of Famer Skip Robinson.

The 4x100 relay team snuck at #8 behind Jayden Jordan, Avery, Pequeno and Allen at 42.54. They have a best time of 42.10 earlier this year but will try to score high against formidable competition from top seed San Diego Mesa (41.03), and Cerritos (41.23), and Riverside (41.31).

Pequeno ran 49.51, but his 11th place finish was not enough to quaify in the 400.

The Lancers are directed by head coach Innocent Egbunike.
