A year that started with a perfect 7-0 South Coast Conference dual record ended with a sixth place finish, the best ever under head coach Terry Stoddard, by the Pasadena City College men's swimming team at the 2018 CCCAA State Swimming and Diving Championships held May 3-5 at De Anza College.
It wasn't what the Pasadena City College men's swim team hoped for, but the Lancers found much to cheer about at the 2018 South Coast Conference Championships held April 19-21 at Mt. San Antonio College. After a perfect SCC dual meet season, the Lancers placed third at the conference finals, finishing behind winner Mt. San Antonio and second-place El Camino. PCC has never won the SCC team championship title.
For the first time in its 32-year history in the South Coast Conference, the Pasadena City College men's swim team won the conference dual season title. The Lancers completed a perfect season at 7-0 in SCC duals on Friday in defeating host Cerritos College, 156-103, and LA Trade Tech, 204-47.
With a dominating 13 event victories, the Pasadena City College men's swim team routed visiting Chaffey, 179-75, on March 30 to stay undefeated in South Coast Conference duals at 5-0. PCC is 6-1 overall.
Learning that two of his swimmers had to miss due to illness/injury just prior to the meet, Pasadena City College men's swim team head coach Terry Stoddard knew his Lancers had no margin for error Friday. During a steady rain, PCC came through with some key help by sophomore Jayson Wilia in opening the South Coast Conference dual season by recording wins over El Camino, 144-127, and Long Beach City College, 158-87.
Last season, the Pasadena City College men's swim team made a return to the upper tier with a ninth place showing at the CCCAA State Championships. The Lancers featured the South Coast Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year in Samuel Jo and produced 11 All-American swims.
