The state #8-ranked Pasadena City College men's soccer team continued its winning ways, downing East Los Angeles, 3-1, in a South Coast Conference North Division game on Friday. The Lancers remain undefeated at Robinson Stadium, now 5-0-2 on their home pitch.
While PCC (9-1-3 overall) is tied with Mt. San Antonio for the division lead at 2-0, the Lancers are not getting any favors on the updated power points ratings. (edited today 10/13 updated) Pasadena is No. 6 now among South Region teams despite being one of five squads in state with as many as nine victories. The only other SCC colleges with higher power points is state #2-rated El Camino (6-3-4 record) and Cerritos at #4.
Things may change for the Lancers in a good way as PCC still has South Coast contests remaining v. El Camino, Cerritos, and Mt. San Antonio
Against ELAC, PCC netted all three goals in the game's first 35 minutes. In the ninth minute, Junior Martinez Cortes play a through ball to a racing Julian Zuniga, who fired an 18-yard shot to the left side with his left foot for a 1-0 lead. It was Zuniga's team-leading seventh goal.
In the 13th minute, Cristian Villegas fed David Canales who passed to Josiah Lucio for a 6-yard drive. Then in the 35th minute, Zuniga sent a cross to Andre Baktchedjian, who headed in a center shot for the final PCC goal.
Lancers head coach Francisco Cantero has directed his program to a sparkling 24-10-3 record since the start of the 2024 season.
PCC now gets tested when it hosts El Camino on Tuesday, Oct. 14 in a 1:30 p.m. home kickoff.
