In two years as the Dean of Kinesiology, Health and Athletics at Pasadena City College, Dr. Timi Brown has positively impacted the KHA division on a large scale.
Dr. Brown oversees a division that includes 16 intercollegiate athletic teams and a new emerging program in 2026-27 in flag football, a large faculty/coaching full-time staff, full-time classified personnel, and numerous part-time staff.
A veteran of 40 years in college athletics as a NCAA Division I basketball player at the University of Arizona, a head coach, administrator and consultant, Dr. Brown came to PCC after serving as the Director of Kinesiology and Athletics at Chaffey College for nearly six years.
Dr. Brown is an innovative and student-centered leader in Kinesiology, Health, and Athletics, dedicated to expanding access, enhancing student experiences, strengthening community connections, and maintaining competitive success. Through strategic collaboration and forward-thinking initiatives, Dr. Brown has led efforts that elevate both academic and athletic programs while supporting the holistic success of students and student-athletes.
Under Dr. Brown’s leadership, Pasadena City College Athletics has experienced sustained competitive and academic success. Lancers teams have captured multiple South Coast Conference titles and bowl championships in football, while numerous student-athletes and coaches have earned all-conference and Coach of the Year honors. Equally important, Dr. Brown has emphasized academic excellence, with teams and individuals consistently meeting and exceeding statewide academic standards—reflecting a comprehensive commitment to achievement both in competition and in the classroom.
Guided by a commitment to student wellness and achievement, Dr. Brown partnered with the nonprofit Student-Athlete Meal Plan to pilot a nutritious meal program for the Lancers men’s and women’s basketball teams. This focus on whole-student support extends to program stability and safety, including the relocation of PCC softball to Jefferson Park through close collaboration with the City of Pasadena Parks and Recreation and ongoing efforts toward facility renovations—creating a more sustainable and secure environment to rebuild a competitive softball program.
Dr. Brown has also advanced career exploration opportunities by collaborating with the Freeman Center to launch a KHA Career Day, bringing together more than 200 local high school students and industry partners from across the state to explore educational pathways and careers in the field.
Building on these student-centered initiatives, Dr. Brown has prioritized the enhancement of facilities and academic programming. The Performance Lab was updated to provide comprehensive fitness testing opportunities for students, student-athletes, and community members, creating a hub for applied learning and wellness. Academic offerings have also grown under Dr. Brown’s leadership, including a more than 50% expansion of the Yoga Instructor Program and, in collaboration with faculty, the development of a new Personal Training Certificate Program set to launch in Fall 2026.
In tandem with program and facility improvements, Dr. Brown has strengthened the visibility and identity of the KHA division. By enhancing KHA branding to better align with the college’s mission and reimaging the Lancers Athletics website for ADA compliance and modern student engagement, Dr. Brown has ensured a more inclusive and accessible digital presence. This commitment to celebrating excellence is also reflected in additoins to the “Court of Champions,” featuring updated student-athlete banners, as well as refreshed Hutto-Patterson Gym banners that highlight and honor past PCC Athletics’ success.
This work further includes the introduction of “Lancers Legacy,” a celebration honoring the proud tradition and accomplishments of Lancers Athletics alumni. Furthermore, Dr. Brown has also expanded athletic facility rental opportunities within the KHA Division by implementing a strategic, shared-revenue model. This approach has increased access to campus facilities for community partners and external organizations while generating new, sustainable funding streams to support programs, operations, and student-athlete success. By aligning facility use with institutional priorities and community engagement, Dr. Brown has created a balanced model that maximizes resources, strengthens partnerships, and reinvests in the continued growth and excellence of the division.
Reflecting a continued commitment to growth, equity, and opportunity, Dr. Brown also led the addition of Pasadena City College’s 17th intercollegiate sport--women’s flag football, beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. This milestone underscores a broader vision of inclusive excellence, positioning the division to better serve a diverse and evolving student population. Through these interconnected efforts, Dr. Brown continues to foster a dynamic environment that empowers students, strengthens community partnerships, and advances the mission of Pasadena City College.
At Chaffey, Dr. Brown managed 14 intercollegiate sports, served as the Vice President, Gender Equity and Women’s Basketball rep for the Inland Empire Athletic Conference, while also serving on the 3C2A Management Council as the Women’s Basketball rep. She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics and was one of eight athletic directors throughout the country to receive the CBIZ Borden Perlman Sports Convention Grant.
