PASADENA, CA — Pasadena City College Athletics has announced the appointment of Roger Flanders as the new Sports Information Specialist. Flanders brings a strong background in collegiate athletics and sports media to lead the communications efforts for the 17 Lancers programs.
Dr. Timi Brown, Dean of Kinesiology, Health and Athletics/Interim Athletic Director, shared her enthusiasm on the new addition, "We are thrilled to welcome Roger to our PCC Athletics family as our new Sports Information Specialist. Roger brings a strong passion for athletics, storytelling, and student-athlete promotion, and we are excited to have him join our team."
She continued, "While we recognize that he is stepping into a role previously held by the highly respected Robert Lewis, whose contributions to PCC Athletics have left a lasting impact, we are confident that Roger's experience, professionalism, and enthusiasm will continue to elevate the visibility of our programs and the achievements of our student-athletes. We look forward to the energy, creativity, and fresh perspective he will bring to Lancers Athletics."
Flanders joins PCC after a year spent in Northern California at NCAA Division II Jessup University in Rocklin. He served as Director of Sports Communications for the Warriors 18 athletic programs within the Pacific West Conference. Flanders had the opportunity to report on and host DI programs through the department's successful and nationally recognized men's volleyball and STUNT teams.
A Southern California native, Flanders gained experience in the Southwest. In Oklahoma, he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Cameron University. As part of the highly competitive DII Lone Star Conference, he oversaw all aspects of sports information, communications and game operations while managing and teaching graduate assistants.
He previously worked as Sports Information Director at Western Texas College (Snyder). Flanders exercised his creative abilities by refreshing the social media look of the Westerners' Instagram, Facebook and Twitter/X. Flanders conducted live streams, produced physical media and worked closely with coaching staff to promote the student-athletes.
Flanders began his journey in the field, working within the sports information and marketing department for Cypress College Athletics. At Cypress, he assisted the SID and was responsible for writing, editing, and publishing content to the athletics website. Flanders curated press releases for home and playoff contests, coordinated media days, and covered multiple 3C2A State Championship runs. He continued his work within the Orange Empire Conference for Golden West College.
"I am incredibly grateful and excited to return home to Southern California at an institution with the prestige of Pasadena City College," Flanders said. "I look forward to honoring the incredible legacy of longtime Lancer Robert Lewis and thank Dr. Brown for entrusting me with guiding the athletics department in this exciting period of growth and transition."
Flanders is an alumnus of California State University, Long Beach. He earned a Bachelor's in Journalism degree in 2021, then completed his Master's in Kinesiology, Sports Management in 2022.
