Women's Cross Country Season Concludes
The Pasadena City College women's cross country team closed out the 2017 season with only three runners competing at the Southern California Championships held November 3 at Central Park in Santa Clarita. The Lancers had originally qualified as an at-large berth but were not able to get the required runners needed to score as a team.
The Pasadena City College women's cross country team closed out the 2017 season with only four runners competing at the Southern California Championships held November 3 at Central Park in Santa Clarita. The Lancers had originally qualified as an at-large berth but were not able to get the required runners (five) needed to score as a team.
PCC had finished in 20th place at the SoCal Preview Meet back in September. At the SoCal Championships, Raylin Galvan was PCC's fastest racer as she covered the 5-kilometer course in a time of 22 minutes, 27.5 seconds, a 20-second improvement from her time at the Preview meet. She placed 103rd overall, just ahead of teammate Yasmeen Barrios (104th) who ran 22:32.3. Barrios had an impressive improvement of a minute, 14 seconds from her previous Central Park time.
Vanessa Monrreal placed 137th (187 total runners) at 24:16.6 (33-second improvement) while Melissa Olivas crossed in 155th (25:05.9, an improvement of 1:37 overall).
PCC women's cross country is coached by Innocent Egbunike, who finished his second year in charge of the program.
