Women's Volleyball #13 Seed Hosts #20 San Bernardino Valley In SoCal Regional

The Pasadena City College women's volleyball team was awarded the #13 seed and will host a Southern California Regional First Round match v. #20 San Bernardino Valley on Saturday, Nov. 18. First serve is 6 p.m. at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

The Lancers (18-8) placed in a tie for third place with #8 Mt. San Antonio in the South Coast Conference, dropped from a 3-way tie for second place due to a forfeit loss by #17 East Los Angeles (v. #9 Long Beach in a dates limit infraction). PCC also learned it fell to #22 in the final regular season State Top 25 Rankings. 

Pasadena is making its sixth straight trip to the postseason under head coach Mike Terrill, who only missed the playoffs in his first season at PCC in 2016. 

PCC is 2-5 in its last five appearances, but has been knocked out in opening round contests in 2019, 2021, and last year in a 5-set thriller v. Grossmont.

SBVC won a share of its first conference title in 17 years, tying Mt. San Jacinto for the Inland Empire Athletic Conference crown. The Wolverines (18-6) and PCC have split their four matchups in the 21st century (2-2), but the two colleges haven't met in volleyball since 2002 when SBVC scored a sweep during the then 30-point set era.

The last time SBVC played at "The Patt" was 23 years ago when it was sideout scoring with PCC sweeping a non-conference match, 15-12, 15-13, 15-4. 

San Bernardino Valley is paced by Manaia Mamea, 12th in the state in kills average at 4.01 per set.

If PCC wins, it will play at #4 Irvine Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

LANCERS PLACE 6 ON ALL-SOUTH COAST CONFERENCE TEAM

PCC garnered six selections on the All-SCC First and Second Teams as sophomore outside hitter Emma Yogan, letterman middle blocker Ashley Gilbert, and second-year setter Lindsay Delgadillo all were named First Team. Yogan, who is the second all-time kills leader in Lancers history with now 585, is a 2-time First Team choice.

Delgadillo recently passed the 1,000 assists mark in her career (12th in the state in assists average per set this year at 8.91) while Gilbert has led the team block kills in both of her seasons (112 overall), a .68 per set average. 

Making All-SCC Second Team were three more sophomores in libero Makayla Chiechi, tied for third in the conference in digs per set at 4.04, outside hitter Reese Roper, averaging 1.95 kills and 2.74 digs and one of the team's best defensive players, and lefty opposite Kyley Chang, averaging 1.6 kills and .59 blocks.
