The #13-seed Pasadena City College women's soccer couldn't stop #4 Cypress' offensive attack and fell to the host Chargers, 4-1, in a Southern California Regional Round 2 playoff game on Saturday.
The Lancers finished the season at 15-7-2, and have put together a tremendous, current 3-year run under head coach Terryn Soelberg. PCC has made three straight trips to the regionals, advancing to at least Round 2 in all three seasons. The Lancers have compiled a 51-13-8 winning record since 2023.
Against Cypress (15-5-2), Iris Pollard made a great give-and-go with Alyssa Avila in the 45th minute and fired in her sixth goal that temporarily tied it at 1-1. But Cypress managed to regain the lead before the first-half whistle when Briselda Tellez launched a drive from the top of the box over the head of PCC goalie Gaioi Mahe and into the center of the net.
Jessica Rosalino Vicente's goal upped it 3-1 for Cypress just four minutes into the second half that made the hill to hard to climb for the Lancers.
Isabella Lopez took a team-high four shot attempts for PCC while her high-scoring sister Alexandra Lopez (team-high 15 goals) was limited to just three shots.
"We had a big transition from last year when we had so many key sophomores that have since gone on to university programs," Soelberg said of the '25 season. "There were a number of freshman players that stepped up for us this year, and we are excited about how many of our players will return next season. I feel we have established a winning culture, one set on fundamental soccer, and our expectations are to be a playoff contender every season."
