Helmuth Pitches Gem In Citrus Walk-Off Win

In her last three starts, Austyn Helmuth showed the mastery in the pitching circle she performed in 2019 as a freshman and 2020 in the pandemic season cut short. The veteran sophomore used her arsernal of different pitches to befuddle Citrus batters and Jaimie Harris delivered a walk-off RBI line drive single to right to give the Lancers a 3-2, non-conference win on Wednesday at Robinson Park.

With several postponements due to the heavy rain in March, the Pasadena City College softball team was given the task of make-up mode while also honoring its regularly scheduled games for this month. This has resulted in an April marathon of games. From April 1-April 15, the Lancers will have played 13 games over 15 days.

On-Base Success Leading To More Wins For Softball

One big reason the 2022 Pasadena City College softball team had an off year with just 14 victories was the squad's inability to reach base. That PCC team had a woeful .331 team on-base percentage, or 62nd in the state. Fast forward to 2023, and now on-base percentage has become a team strength at .434, good enough for 12th in the current state statistics.
