Mercy, Mercy: Doubleheader Sweep for Softball Over Glendale

For the third time this season, the Pasadena City College softball team won a non-conference doubleheader on Friday. The Lancers swept Glendale College, 14-2, in six innings, then 10-1 in five innings in back-to-back mercy victories played at the Glendale Sports Complex.

In the opener, PCC (12-24 record) exploded for 10 runs in the sixth inning as the Lancers reached their most runs in a game this year. Rightfielder Jaimie Harris was a double short of the cycle as she batted 3-for-4 with a triple, her fifth home run and three RBI. Priscilla Ortega, at the designated player batting position, slugged a 3-run homer in the first inning. 

Ten different batters hit safely as first baseman Marcella Ordonez was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and second baseman Montserra Fukumoto was 2-for-2, and was hit by a pitch. Reserve Savanna Redhouse collected her first collegiate hit. The beneficiary of the offense was winning pitcher Kiley Kraft, who pitched the 6-inning, complete game, 5-hitter with no earned runs and four strikeouts. She improved to 10-6 in the circle. 

In the second game, Ortega batted a perfect 4-for-4, slugging another homer, two doubles and scoring three runs. Fukumoto went 2-for-4 including a double while shortstop Gizelle Leyva ripped a 2-run HR and picked up her team-leading 17th stolen base. 

Iliana Cardenas hurled a 5-inning, 4-hitter, allowed just one unearned run and did not walk a batter in her first collegiate pitching victory.

Ortega raised her batting average to .347 while Harris continues to lead the Lancers in hitting with a .363 clip. 

The Lancers next play a South Coast Conference game on Tuesday, April 19 in a 3 p.m. start at Los Angeles Harbor College.
