The Pasadena City College defense, which had been stellar in the last 10 quarters of play, parted like the Red Sea for Moses on Saturday night. The Lancers football team gave up season highs in points and yards in a 58-29 loss at Southwestern College, ending the non-conference portion of their schedule at 2-2.
Trailing visiting Allan Hancock, 17-14, the Pasadena City College football team had to march 80 yards with under four minutes to play. A diving 30-yard catch by Drevontae Armstrong put PCC into Hancock territory, then quarterback Jesse Hanckel delivered a perfect throw to a streaking Yusef Muhammad for a 29-yard touchdown that rallied the Lancers to a 21-17 triumph at Robinson Stadium. The game-winning TD came with only 1:38 left in the SCFA non-conference contest.
On a night where the Pasadena City College football team had 50 more yards in penalties than in total offense (194 to 144), the Lancers let their defense do the talking in a 26-11, SCFA non-conference victory over San Bernardino Valley at Robinson Stadium Saturday.
The Pasadena City College football team outscored state No. 2 Long Beach City College, 7-6, in the second half of their 2016 season opener Saturday. Unfortunately for the Lancers, the first half was all Long Beach as PCC fell, 41-14, at LBCC Veterans Stadium.
Lean times in recent years for the Pasadena City College football team have put the Lancers program in a re-boot mode. With Tom Maher making a second tour of duty as head coach, PCC hopes to find success in 2016 in a new conference. Pasadena will play in the newly formed SCFA Metro League as part of the American Division.
With one-time Mission Conference winning head coach Tom Maher (1996-2004) back in charge, the 2016 Pasadena City College football team will be introduced to fans in a pre-season scrimmage against Fullerton College this Saturday, Aug. 27.
